HPPSC Scientific Officer – Educational Qualification
Essential:
- At least 2nd class M.Sc. in Forensic Science (with specialization, dissertation, course, or project work in Chemical Sciences), OR
- At least 2nd class M.Sc. in Chemistry / Bio-Chemistry / Pharmacy / M.S. (Pharm.) / M. Pharm. from a recognized University.
- Minimum 3 years of post-qualification experience in Research, Training and Analytical Work. The experience certificate must be signed by the Research Supervisor or the Head of the Organization/Department.
- Research work done for a Ph.D. counts towards the 3 years.
Desirable:
- Ph.D. in one of the above subjects.
- Knowledge of customs, manners and dialects of Himachal Pradesh.
Eligibility is counted as on the closing date of the online application.
Age Limit
- Age: 18 to 45 years (as on 01-01-2026)
- Relaxation: 5 years in the upper age limit for bonafide SC, ST, OBC, WFF and Persons with Disabilities of Himachal Pradesh.
- HP Government employees and Ex-Servicemen of HP get relaxation as per Government instructions. Relaxation applies only if a post is reserved for that category.
- Candidates from other states are treated as Unreserved, with no relaxation.
Application Fee
- Rs. 600 for all candidates, irrespective of category or gender.
- Pay online by Debit Card / Credit Card / UPI / other digital modes.
- The fee is non-refundable.
Salary
Rs. 28,000 per month (emoluments for Job Trainee). The engagement is governed by the Himachal Pradesh scheme for engagement of job trainees on a fixed amount.
Selection Process and Exam Pattern
The stages are an Objective Screening Test / Descriptive Subject Aptitude Test, followed by a Personality Test.
Paper-I (Screening Test, 100 marks, 1 hour, MCQ):
- General Knowledge of Himachal Pradesh: 30
- National and International Affairs: 30
- Hindi language: 20
- English language: 20
Paper-II (Descriptive Subject Aptitude Test, 120 marks, 3 hours): The detailed syllabus will be uploaded on the HPPSC website shortly.
Key points:
- There is negative marking of 0.25 per wrong answer. Blank or multiple answers also lose 0.25. Choose option “E” if you don’t want to answer.
- Personality Test: 30 marks. Minimum pass marks are 12 for General and 9 for reserved categories.
- Minimum pass marks in Paper-II: 45% for General and 40% for reserved categories.
- Final ranking is based on Paper-II (120) plus Personality Test (30).
- If the number of eligible candidates is six times the posts or less, all may be called directly for the Personality Test.
- Exam city: Shimla.

- Check the preview of every document, tick the declaration and pay the Rs. 600 fee online.
- Submit and save a printout. No changes are allowed after submission.
