Eligibility Criteria
- The candidate must be a citizen of India.
- Reservation and age relaxation apply only to original residents of Madhya Pradesh. Candidates from other states must apply as Unreserved. Disabled candidates from other states apply as UR (PH).
- A candidate with more than one living spouse is not eligible.
- A candidate with more than two children, one of whom was born on or after 26 January 2001, is not eligible. The notification gives clarifications for this rule.
- The candidate must obtain a medical fitness certificate from the District Medical Board. It can be submitted within 30 days of joining.
- Candidates who have been dismissed from service, debarred by UPSC, a State PSC or a High Court, or convicted of an offence involving moral turpitude are not eligible.
- Candidates must disclose any pending or dismissed criminal case.
- Employed candidates must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their department.

Selection Process
The selection has two stages.
Stage 1: Online Preliminary Exam (100 marks)
- The paper has MCQs, with 1 mark per question and a duration of 2 hours (120 minutes).
- It is a screening test only. These marks are not counted in the final result.

- Candidates are shortlisted for the Skill Test in a ratio of about 1:5 per post. Candidates tied at the cut-off marks are also included.
- Possible exam cities are Jabalpur, Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Sagar, Satna and Ujjain.
Stage 2: Shorthand Skill Test (100 marks)
- Stenographer Gr-II, Gr-III and Court Manager Staff: Hindi shorthand. Assistant Gr-III: English shorthand.
- Dictation of about 400 words for 5 minutes, followed by 30 minutes for transcription on a computer (35 minutes in total).
- Hindi transcription must be done in the Remington Gail keyboard layout.
- Each error costs 0.50 marks. If a candidate makes more than 120 errors, the answer sheet is awarded zero.
- Dictation written in longhand in the notebook leads to loss of full marks.

Final merit: The final merit is based on the Skill Test marks only. A higher-age candidate gets preference in case of a tie. The posts are filled in this order: Steno Gr-II, then Gr-III, then Court Manager Staff, then Assistant Gr-III. Candidates are considered for the post they chose in the online form, and this choice cannot be changed later.
Other conditions
- Selected candidates must execute a ₹2 lakh bond and serve for a minimum of 3 years.
- District allotment is done through counselling based on merit and vacancy.
- Document verification and the satisfaction of the appointing authority are required.
