HPPSC Medical Officer Recruitment 2026 – Eligibility Criteria
Essential Qualification:
- A recognized medical qualification included in the First or Second Schedule, or Part-II of the Third Schedule (other than licentiate qualifications) of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956. Candidates holding Part-II qualifications must satisfy conditions under Section 13(3) of the Act.
- Completion of compulsory rotating internship.
Desirable Qualification:
- Postgraduate Degree/Diploma as per the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 (Appendix-A recognized institutions), and
- Knowledge of the customs, manners and dialects of Himachal Pradesh.
Age Limit: 18 to 45 years (reckoned as on 01-01-2026)
- 5 years’ age relaxation for bonafide SC/ST/OBC/WFF/PwD candidates of HP (only where a post is reserved for that category).
- Age relaxation for HP Govt. employees and Ex-Servicemen of HP as per government instructions.
Note: Reservation benefits apply only to bonafide residents of Himachal Pradesh. Candidates from other states in reserved categories will be treated as Unreserved.

HPPSC Medical Officer Recruitment 2026 – Selection Process
Selection is conducted in two stages:
Stage 1 – Screening Test / Subject Aptitude Test
- Paper-I: Computer Based Test (CBT)/Offline Screening Test — 1 hour, 100 marks, objective MCQs
- GK of Himachal Pradesh – 30 marks
- National & International Affairs – 30 marks
- Hindi Language – 20 marks
- English Language – 20 marks
- Paper-II: Descriptive Subject Aptitude Test (SAT) — 3 hours, 120 marks
Stage 2 – Personality Test — 30 marks
Key Points:
- Negative marking: 0.25 marks deducted per wrong/blank/multiple answer.
- Minimum qualifying marks in SAT: 45% (General), 40% (Reserved categories).
- Minimum qualifying marks in Personality Test: 40% i.e. 12 marks (General), 30% i.e. 9 marks (Reserved categories).
- Final merit is based on SAT (120) + Personality Test (30) marks.
- If the candidate-to-post ratio is 6 or below, candidates go directly to the Personality Test.
